Our History
The wooden doors of the Jerusalem M. B. Church swung open in 1888. On a foundation heated by wood and lighted by oil lamps and surrounded by the woods, thickets and ditches, the church began to function as a place of worship for the surrounding communities. Under the leadership of various pastors, the church added fixtures to the building as accomplished, such as the steeple, windows, flooring, indoor plumbing, roofing and gas heating, providing for a comfortable meeting place.
As the years passed by and Jerusalem M. B. Church continued to function as a place of worship, the pastors and members enthusiastically headed financial drives to add other amenities to the church as needed in the service of the Lord which included pews, carpet, pulpit setting, a P. A. system, and air conditioning. Accomplishments were made under the leadership of all pastors and dedicated members past. And so it is that over one hundred years past, in the eye sight of God,
As we look at Jerusalem M. B. Church today; in 2008, God placed Jerusalem M. B. Church under the leadership of Pastor Floyd L. Hazlett, Jr. Under his leadership the Jerusalem Church Family has began to increase in membership and the congregation is being taught to live the will of the Lord without compromise. Under Pastor Floyd’s leadership, Jerusalem M.B. Church has evolved into an updated modern church with amenities all enhancing the church’s ability to reach out to the community providing a more comfortable, sanitary place for families to come and worship. The membership is being trained and taught and expects more as the Jerusalem M. B. Church reaches out to serve the surrounding community.
In looking toward the future of Jerusalem M. B. Church, Pastor Floyd has envisioned spiritual, and physical growth of the church and has put in place a plan to reach out to our families and communities through a vast array of programs that will help our families and communities to build and grow focusing on the areas of teaching, training, education, health, youth, rehabilitation, combating and helping the homeless, family life, and personal needs all to stimulate positive growth in the family, community, church and world. We press on under our leader with new work systemizing the church for success and growth so Jerusalem M. B. Church will continue to be a beacon of light for the community.
